Ariel shared a story with us told to her by a girl in her dorm .
There was a missionary family that was preparing to move
back to the States. Before they left they found a little Chihuahua
that was so cute they decided to take it with them.
He was very small, so they kept him in a carry-on until
they arrived home.
He made the perfect pet, and even slept at the end of their beds.
After some time he seemed ill, so they took him to the vet.
As the vet checked him out he told the family that their
pet was actually a South American Beach Rat!
All that time they had been feeding and sleeping with a rat!
Now, I have no idea how they could mistake a rat for
a Chihuahua, but here's a clip of a tea cup Chihuahua
that is pretty much the size of a rat...
Take a look and imagine the worst!
Actually, he's pretty cute!
Funny story though.
I thought it was a bit far fetched, so I just had to
google search the South American Beach rat.
All I could find was the Capybara, which looks like
a beaver with a big head.
Then I actually found a folklore site with the same story
only a New York couple traveling in Florida.
They find a little dog, take it back to their home.
It fights the cat, gets wounded is taken to the vet to find
it's a Haitian rat!
Hmmmm.... it certainly pays to search things out!
We also found some crazy pets while looking into this
mystery...
